Frequently Asked Questions

Entry® is ready to use. For best results, do not dilute.

Entry® is a clear liquid that looks, feels, and dries a lot like rain. Prevent it from tracking indoors with standard weather-related precautions like doormats and shoe removal. Entry® that tracks inside won’t stain or leave residue.

When used as directed, Entry’s chloride-free neutral pH and liquid formula make it less corrosive and less abrasive than traditional granular ice melts, and therefore safer for indoor surfaces.

Entry® is designed to be applied with a sprayer and vertical fan tip nozzle. You can use any type of sprayer or our easy-to-use sprayers designed to apply Entry® at the optimal rate and spray pattern. We offer these online, à la carte and in bundled options. Entry® brand equipment may also be available through Entry® commercial distributors, on Amazon, and at select Ace Hardware® stores.

Once you’ve poured Entry® into your sprayer, follow package label instructions. Don’t attempt to “pressure wash” ice or snow using added pressure or volume. It won’t impact results and only wastes product.

Entry® is less likely than chloride products to damage concrete, for a few reasons:

Chloride salts have higher refreeze points than Entry®, making chloride-treated snow and ice prone to refreeze as temperatures drop. When this happens, water continually seeps into concrete’s pores and expands, over time causing cracking and flaking.

Entry’s lower refreeze point eliminates this vicious thaw/refreeze cycle. Even more, its chloride-free formulation won’t break concrete’s chemical bonds. Entry® is a great choice for concrete compared to other ice melts. Ensure added protection by using Entry® (and all ice melts) conservatively, only when and where necessary.

Entry® is less likely than chloride products to damage new concrete, for a few reasons:

Newly poured concrete takes a year or more to cure, or settle to the point of optimal strength and resistance. Newer concrete is therefore more porous and particularly susceptible to the corrosive effects of chlorides, which attacks the bonds that hold concrete together.

Chloride salts have higher refreeze points than Entry®, making chloride-treated snow and ice prone to refreeze as temperatures drop. When this happens, water continually seeps into new concrete’s pores and expands, over time causing cracking and flaking. Entry’s lower refreeze point eliminates this vicious thaw/refreeze cycle, letting new concrete stand a chance.

Entry® is less likely than chloride products to damage wood decks. Chloride salts dry out wood. Even more, chloride in granular form is abrasive like sandpaper, attaching to the bottom of shoes, furniture, and paws and causing scratch-related damage.

Entry’s chemistry is safer than chloride’s, and its liquid delivery method is less damage-prone. Entry® is a great choice for wood decking compared to other ice melts. Ensure added protection by using Entry® (and all ice melts) conservatively, only when and where necessary.

Entry® is less likely than chloride products to damage composite decks. Chloride salts dry out composite materials. Even more, chloride in granular form is abrasive like sandpaper, attaching to the bottom of shoes, furniture, and paws and causing scratch-related damage.

Entry’s chemistry is safer than chloride’s, and its liquid delivery method is less damage-prone. Entry® is a great choice for composite decking compared to other ice melts. Ensure added protection by using Entry® (and all ice melts) conservatively, only when and where necessary.

Traditional ice melts hurt paws and are toxic when ingested. Safer alternatives to this point have been one or more of the following: minimally effective, sticky, tough on the environment, or high priced.

When used as directed, Entry® is the long-awaited affordable solution for pet owners, and poses no known threats to the planet. Entry® is a great choice for pets compared to chloride ice melts. Ensure added protection by using Entry® (and all ice melts) conservatively, only when and where necessary.

Yes. When used as directed, Entry® melts ice and snow to temperatures as low as -63 degrees Fahrenheit (-52 degrees Celsius) and prevents refreeze to temperatures as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit (-28 degrees Celsius).

Not all stones are created equal. For complete confidence, consult with your installation contractor on the compatibility of Entry’s key ingredient, Potassium formate, with decorative stones like granite or marble. This safety data sheet offers a detailed product profile.

Yes. When used as directed, Entry’s chloride-free formula won’t dehydrate plants or turf. Entry® is a great choice for greenery compared to other ice melts. Ensure added protection by using Entry® (and all ice melts) conservatively, only when and where necessary.

You cannot over apply Entry® but you can waste money, product, and time spraying too much. Some users try to “pressure wash” residual snow or ice instead of applying the recommended rate and allowing Entry® to do the work. Over-applying won’t cause damage, but won’t make surfaces safer, either.

Entry® is a proprietary blend of Potassium formate and an adjuvant formulation designed to turn every spray droplet into a shape capable of breaking through ice’s molecular lattice. Additionally, Entry’s proprietary formulation is designed to reduce corrosion and tracking and to balance pH.

Yes, but Entry® won’t pre-treat any better than chloride-based ice melts. Treatment during and immediately after snow and ice accumulation is where Entry® surpasses the competition.

We’re not sprayer experts, but there are some we really like. They can be used to apply other products once winter turns to spring, or can be used to store Entry® all year. These units are available online. They may also be available through Entry commercial distributors, on Amazon, and at select Ace Hardware® stores.

Entry® works with any type of sprayer, but it’s important that you use a vertical fan tip nozzle, available through us, though Entry commercial distributors, on Amazon, or at Ace Hardware® stores.

Once ground cover reaches the thickness of a piece of cardboard (about 1/8 inch or .31 cm), Entry® loses effectiveness. For best results, apply Entry® as ice and snow are beginning to accumulate, or clear as much ice and snow as possible before applying Entry®. If ice and/or snow exceed cardboard’s thickness, we recommend a granular product, like Ally G Powered by Entry®.

Wait for freezing temperatures (32 degrees Fahrenheit/0 degrees Celsius) before applying Entry®. Entry® (and all ice melts, for that matter) has minimal impact on heavy, slushy snowfall characterized by just-above-freezing temperatures. When this type of snow falls, shovel it away and hold off on spraying Entry® until temperatures reach freezing.

When used as directed, one gallon of Entry® is the equivalent of 100 pounds of traditional ice melt products, or one application across 1500-square feet of surface area.

Certifiably Safe

Third-party toxicological risk assessment firm ToxServices concludes that Entry® poses no health risk to pets or humans when used as directed.
